Volvo has launched a fixed battery with a 500 kWh capacity. This could prove beneficial during natural calamities or for rapid charging needs.

Volvo has introduced an intriguing energy storage solution aimed at addressing your power requirements for charging. anywhere and anytime— Even when the electrical grid is non-functional because of interruptions linked to meteorological occurrences or various calamities.

Volvo’s fixed battery system goes by the name PU500 Battery Energy Storage System. As indicated by its title, it has the capacity to hold up to 500 kilowatt-hours of energy. Volvo's energy segment asserts that this amount is sufficient to supply electricity for houses, facilities, and even construction locations set up in regions impacted by natural calamities.

"Niklas Thulin, who manages stationary systems at Volvo Energy, stated that the PU500, featuring an integrated CCS2-type charger, is built to operate seamlessly with every piece of electrical equipment available today, irrespective of which manufacturer produced it. This capability allows for powering various devices such as electric vehicles, thereby significantly enhancing the versatility of their offering," said Niklas Thulin.

Charging Up to 20 Electric Vehicles Each Day

It’s designed for more than just a single electric vehicle too. Thanks to the availability of ample lithium-ion battery The PU500 has the capability to charge up to 20 electric cars daily. It can also provide power for three electric trucks or various construction equipment like wheel loaders and other types of construction machinery.

Volvo highlighted the quick delivery of power it provides. The company stated, “With the PU500, we achieve remarkable efficiency by being able to recharge a heavy-duty truck in around 1.5 hours. Additionally, this unit can service up to three electric heavy-duty trucks or as many as 20 electric cars each day once fully powered, underlining its importance for sectors dependent on electric vehicles.”

The Volvo PU500 is built for easy transportation within a truck. This allows for flexible installation virtually anywhere, enabling it to provide power even in isolated locations upon setup.

Volvo has not yet announced when the unit will be available for purchase, but they also mentioned that it will include digital features allowing users to track and arrange its charging activities.
