The Manitoba government is investing $500,000 to set up 51 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the province.
Mike Moyes, the Environment and Climate Change Minister, announced this on Monday. The financial support originates from the province's Climate Action Fund.
Out of the new charging stations, 39 will be placed in Brandon, Morden, along with various rural, northern, and Indigenous areas. The remaining 12 will be set up at three multi-unit residential complexes; however, their specific sites were undisclosed in the announcement.
Moyes mentioned that the objective is to broaden accessibility to charging facilities as an increasing number of Manitobans acquire electric vehicles. Additionally, he pointed out that augmenting the count of charging points is integral to the province’s larger climate plan.
The government has not offered a schedule for the installations nor identified the contractors or agencies taking part in the rollout. A comprehensive list of intended sites can be found on the provincial website.
This investment is a component of Manitoba’s initiatives to expand its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure network. At the time of this announcement, no new policies concerning EV incentives or regulations had been introduced.
