Meet the New Nexo
With a length of 187 inches, the 2026 Hyundai Nexo is slightly more than three inches longer than its predecessor In the U.S., this model was exclusively available in California for the 2019 through 2023 production years. Despite having the same 109.8-inch wheelbase, the updated version is slightly more spacious, being two-tenths of an inch broader and over an inch higher when equipped with optional roof rails. A notable difference from the previous Nexo is that the latest iteration can tow a trailer, provided it doesn’t exceed 2205 pounds in weight.

Hyundai claims that the Nexo’s hydrogen fuel-cell system has seen enhancements. This includes a stronger fuel cell stack known for better durability, particularly when temperatures drop. Additionally, the electric engine has become more potent. Positioned at the front, this drivetrain now delivers 201 horsepower. It promises to go from stationary to 62 mph in approximately 7.8 seconds, marking a significant improvement compared to its previous version, which accomplished the same feat in 9.2 seconds. Furthermore, thanks to a bigger hydrogen storage capacity and increased efficiency, Hyundai aims for a maximum travel distance exceeding 430 miles.
Slick and Spacious Interior
Inside, the Nexo closely resembles other Hyundai vehicles, featuring horizontal design elements on the dashboard along with two 12.3-inch screens. The infotainment system supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; additionally, it incorporates generative artificial intelligence for handling voice commands. For audio enthusiasts, a Bang & Olufsen sound system provides up to 12 speakers, complemented by a heads-up display option. In select regions, some Nexos may come equipped with digital rearview mirrors supplied by cameras instead of traditional mirrors.

Want to unwind while you're at a hydrogen refueling station? The Nexo’s front seats come equipped with reclining features, ventilated cushioning, and extendable footrests. According to Hyundai, passengers in the rear get improved headroom and more shoulder space compared to previous models, plus the back doors now swing open wider for folks with mobility issues to enter and exit more easily. If you’re into golfing, this fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) SUV can accommodate as many as four golf bags. It boasts a spacious trunk area offering about 35 cubic feet when the rear seats are upright; folding these down expands storage capacity to around 61 cubic feet.
Sadly, the upcoming Nexo model might not make it to the United States. If it does arrive here, it’s probable that it would primarily be available in California. However, Hyundai has announced that they plan to introduce the vehicle to various international markets at some point later this year.
